Warren and I were going into Alice Springs from the caravan park and had to wait for the train. Dont know how long the train was but we couldnt see the front when we pulled up and we were there seven minutes, a very long train.
When we travelled on the Ghan I was a bit disappointed as we left Adelaide at 4pm in winter, by the time we got out of the city, it was dark. Looking forward to seeing the outback, the sun didnt come up until about seven and we got into Alice at 9.30 am so didnt really see that much, then the Ghan only went to Alice then returned to Adelaide.
Now The Ghan continues to Darwin and includes stops/trips in Marla, another M place that comes first in Sth Aussie, Alice Springs and Katherine plus 4 nights accom in Darwin, trip to Litchfield and a croc sighting boat ride and a sunset dinner in Darwin. Princely sum four to five thousand dollars give or take a few.
Bit rich for me but plenty of people do it. I think at Marla, its a sunrise breakfast.
