Albert Namatjira

Was a quite famous aboriginal artist, selling his artworks local, nationally and internationally. The Queen had honoured him in her first year of office. He had grown up in a mission and learnt to paint western style rather than aboriginal dot painting.

In my last years of primary school, there was one of his paintings on the back wall, I dont know how it came to be but I always remembered it and who it was by. He painted many scenes with ghost gums in them.

Aidan and I walked to the cemetery where he is buried in the Lutheran section and found his grave.

This mural is very similar to the one that hung in my school room.

He does have a very interesting story.
