Sheridan and I went to see this movie yesterday. It is an Aussie made movie set in Australia in the 1950's. I heard some-one refer to it as a dark comedy. It does have comedy and drama and glamour in fact it ticks a lot of boxes. I enjoyed it and will probably see it again as there were some scenes that I would like to revisit.
All Aussie actors except for Kate Winslow and while she was good in it, her age didn't seem to fit to the rest of the characters.

Oddball
Thats the dogs name and also the name of the movie that we went to see this afternoon. Its a kids movie and released for the holidays. I had seen the shorts and thought hat it would be goos plus it had Shane Jacobson in it which should have made it a top movie and I was not disappointed.
I was a bit worried at one stage though when the dog was missing and I was hoping that nothing bad had happened to him when Warren leaned over and hissed to me "Its a movie!"
It was based on a true story set in a seaside town/city west of Melbourne and it was around the rescue of Fairy penguins. Very enjoyable, there was one other person in the theatre when Warren and I went in.

The Last Cab to Darwin
An Australian movie that we went to see last night. Warren had mentioned it a few weeks ago and said he would like to go. I knew what the story was about and wasn't keen to see it so didn't follow through.
It was mentioned again and he said glumly "I guess we have missed that movie" I gathered that he REALLY wanted to see it so I did some research and found that it was still on but during the day only. He didn't want to go on his own so back to the computer. It was showing at 7 pm last night on Bribie Island. It was there or not at all.
It was based on a true story and is about a guy who has been given about three months to live. He read about Euthanasia being allowed in Northern Territory and contacted the doctor to volunteer.
The movie was better than I expected and as usual with Aussie movies it is a "pick the actor" .and what have they been in before. Two of the main characters were indigenous and I hadn't seen either of them act before but they both played excellent roles.
Another unusual thing about this movie was that it was filmed on the road so they actually drove from Broken Hill to Darwin and filmed in each other places, scenery was great with a bit of road kill, road trains etc thrown in for good measure.
The last movie that I saw Micheal Caton in was The Castle and that was scheduled for eleven days of filming and they did it in seven (something like that)and did rather well in the States but they had to change a word or two, rissoles to hamburger was one.

Spy (the movie)
Finally we got to see this movie and what a laugh it was (as expected). My girl friend went to see it and told me that it was a silly movie, that made me all the more determined to see it and our tastes in movies are pretty much opposite.
I found myself laughing out loud at times, thank goodness there were not many people in the theatre! It was a very good movie and I would be quite happy to see it again.

The Croods
I think that is how its spelt. A few nights ago TV program were not inviting and we wanted something to watch. The first movie we selected wouldnt play so we picked the next one. It was called The Croods. We had no idea what it was about and we thought we would put it on and see, after all if it was no good, we could turn it off.
As it starts to play Dreamworld came up and we realised that it was probably a kids movie and done by Dreamworld so should be alright.
Ten minutes into it and I said to Warren "Should we turn it off?" "No Way" he said "This is pretty funny!" so it was.
It wa about a family set in caveman times and how they survived, it was quite stereotyped with the Gran living with them, the older brother who just went long with whatever, the teenage girl who was a rebel and the youngest child who caused lots of dramas.
So many references to life now for instance, they were travelling one time and every one was given a shell to call for help, the way that it was done made you think about mobile phones given to kids now to call home.
It was a really good movie thats a keeper.

Mortacai
I think that is how it is spelt. This is the title of a movie that we went to see last week starring Johnny Depp, Ewan McGregor and Gwyneth Paltrough (think I got the guys name right)
We had seen the shorts a couple of weeks before and thought it would be funny which it was, just a bit of light hearted drama. Johnny Depp plays an upper crust Englishman complete with the voice and the mo. I didnt know it was him at first then I concentrated on his voice and worked out it was him.
Johnny Depp has just arrived in Queensland to film his next movie and "they" are hoping it will "kick start his ailing career" the radio just announced on air as apparently Mortacai did nothing for it and it the movie was a dismal failure.
We got a good laugh out of Mortacai, I esp loved the man servant who was a bit of a thug look alike but was always there when needed.

The Monument Men, the movie
This is an awesome movie, it is a war movie but its like a side line to the war. It was based on a true story and after watching it today, I intend to do some research to find out more about what was stolen and where it was taken etc. Basically a team of men were tasked to find, recover and return to the rightful owners while the war was still raging.
The movie didn't last every long here at the cinema so we had to go closer into Brisbane to see it which took us past the Top Nosh Cafe that I wrote about a few days ago. Wow, three visits in as many weeks, we did say though that we wanted to check out their meals, yummo! Warren had a burger which came with chips and I chose a mushroom and spinach omelette with a soft drink each.
George Clonney acted and directed the movie, Matt Damon, John Goodman, Bill Murray and Cate Blancett were also stars in it. Two hours long but very well done, we both enjoyed it.
On the news tonight, they were talking about movie tickets going to $20 by the end of the year, we paid $21 today

Movies
Warren and I often watch Ellen during lunch but as we don't usually sit down to lunch until 12.30 or so, we miss half of it. Anyhow we turned on yesterday around 12.45, he was home later from tennis and saw the last guest. Warren did a flick around and there was a movie starting and he said that he knew what it was about and asked if I wanted to watch it. I said no but asked him to record it to look at a later time. I was knitting and wanted to finish the row before going and doing anything.
Well, I got interested in the movie, it was based on a true story about the Perth Mint and then I thought to myself why cant I watch it now, I'm retired. A pleasant couple of hours was spent learning about a piece of our history which I didnt know before. It was an Australian production with Aussie actors and at the end there was an interview with the two brothers who were left. The story is about three brothers who were fitted up by police and served seven and nine years, the middle brother was released after a short time but was killed in a light plane crash, he was a pilot.
