Strawberry Season

I had to pick up a couple of things at the supermarket and strawberries were out on special Two punnets for $3, I couldn't go past that so I added two to my arms and carefully made my way to the checkout.

I only needed a couple of things so of course I didn't get a trolley or a basket, just piled into my arms, the two lots of strawberries perched on top until I could put them down on the counter.

Bigger punnets than usual, I picked up the one on the right with the larger ones and turned them over to check if the berries were solid on the bottom or a bit swishy. They were fine and I didn't turn the second one over did I? Dumb move!

Some of the smaller ones did have some bits that needed to be cut out, they would not have lasted another day.
I decided to make some ice cream, very easy with Annie, so cut off the stems and yucky bits, the rest of the yoghurt and a tub of sour cream, fifteen seconds and I have two big bowls of ice cream.
I did add a cup of blue berries from the freezer which gave it a purply look rather red. We had some last night over kiwi fruit. This amount should last us a week or more, it has gone rather rock solid so need to remove from the freezer about 30 minutes before I want to serve it.

Cows

We went to the farm to see the cows.
Millie is the token cow that is milked and patted by the visitors. The tour guide showed everyone how to milk her by hand and then asked anyone if they wanted a taste, those who did taste were surprised how warm the milk was. We then moved on to feeding a two week old calf, there were two of them but one was not interested at all.
Lily and Tina sharing feeding the calf.
Lucy was scared of the animals and would only come into the yard with me, she ended up holding the bottle for the calf but that was all.
Two friendly goats were there as well and there was pellets for them to feed from hands, the girls were that keen on that as they nibbled
Collecting eggs and feeding chooks
The cows go into two rows with the workers in a trough, after we saw the milking, it was back to wash up and then taste their wares. Chocolate milk, yoghurts and custard, very very yummy!

Microwaves (as in ovens)

In one of the magazines that I buy regularly, either That's life or Take five, there was an article about using your microwave. It said that most homes have them but don't use them to their full potential, I can put my hand up for that one.

The article went on to list some ways that microwaves can be used and this is one that I particularly liked and have done it a couple of times since reading about it.
An easy dessert. I sometimes think that we don't eat enough fruit, its there in the fridge but snacks are usually some cheese and biscuits, or a slice of bread, even cereal in Warrens case, rarely do we grab a piece of fruit so I am trying to incorporate fruit into our meals or desserst. The dish in the picture was our afternoon snack yesterday, thanks to the idea in the magazine. Peel and slice an apple and place in microwave until it becomes soft, should only take a minute or two, best to do in one minute bursts, sprinkle with cinnamon and some sugar, I added some Greek yoghurt and a passion fruit on top. Warren was impressed and it only took a few minutes and there is our recommended two fruits for the day. While I was in the kitchen and because it was Anzac day I also made these
Anzac biscuits, the batch made 24 so after sampling a couple, the rest went into the freezer. another use for the microwave was to put dirty socks into some soapy water and place in microwave, I think that is not one idea that I will not be doing.
