Egg plant

I learnt to love egg plant while we lived in China. It was my favorite dish and one of my students grang mother's showed me how to cook it. Unfortunately Warren cant eat soy sauce so i have had to make it different so that he can eat it.

We have two plants but they both died and I replaced them but it is quite awhile since we have had home grown egg plant.

This was what I made. I don't use very much oil, maybe a teaspoon ful and then water so they are more or less steamed. I added some red capsicum and parsley to finish off. Some sweet chilli and bbq sauce over rice. Very moorish which is just as well as there are quite a few more to pick.

Jamie Oliver's Super foods

Jamie has another TV program which started the other night. I like his food and enjoy cooking it, although I don't always follow exactly to what he does.

This is the greenery that I picked from the garden this evening. Lettuce, parsley, mint and basil.

Jamie did a (cant spell the word I want) dish using brown rice, parsley, mint, pomegranate and feta.

Of course I forgot to buy feta but I was sure that I could get around that.

This was tonight's dinner, I added some cooked chicken in place of the feta. It was nice for a change. I didn't know if I could buy a pomegranate but yep, there they were in the supermarket. Our neighbours had a tree and their daughter and I used to eat then straight off the tree when we were kids and end up with wine coloured juice dripping off our hands. I don't know what they did with them except eat them raw. They are quite nice to eat but hard work to get at all the seeds.

Local markets

Our city holds a weekly market every Sunday morning, we haven't been for  year or so but Warren suggests we go along this morning. We didn't really have anything that we wanted/needed to buy. Must always remember its Needs not Wants that is important here.

Wow, I could have gone crazy buying fresh fruit and vegetables as our fridge is getting rather empty but my delivery of F & V is due tomorrow so no point in buying any more.

Judging by the cars parked if each car had two or more people in them, then I would have to say that there were two to tree thousand people there. i know it took us an hour or more to get around and we missed a few rows.

Lots of plants and i was reminded that we bought our lemon tree from the markets, of course there are many places selling breakfast or morning tea most people eat and walk and we did the same with a dagwood dog. These are a treat, not that good, health wise but they taste good especially with tomato sauce dipping off them. I was too busy eating to take a photo of them.

We ended up only buying MT and just before we left, I bought five pots of parsley for a dollar each. Our house sitters had planted parsley and it was doing beautifully and I used it a lot and then it died, possibly dried out. Hopefully these plants will survive for me, I might grow them on the back patio so we will remember to water them
