Pig

Last week we were in Toowoomba and I walked into the library garden and was confronted by this.
Just imagine the holiday you could have once this piggy bank was full!

A Quillo

Posted a parcel off today, the birthday is not until next week so I am early for a change. Maybe an old dog can learn new tricks. I have always had a habit of leaving things to the last minute or day, depending on what it is.

I worked on the quillo last weekend and as I had some other errends to do today, post office being one of them.

A quillo is a quilt that folds up into its own pouch to make a pillow. I did a course years ago about how to make them and got quite a few orders/requests from family members to make them one as well but its been awhile since I made the last one.

I bought the sloth to sit in the pocket.

Bones of the sea

We were up north a few weeks ago and coming back, we stopped at this place. It was about 20kms away from the sea and the name intrigued us.

The bush was like a pine forest and Lucy had a ball running through the trees. While she likes to run free, she never goes more than about 10 metres away from either of us.

Bones of the sea turned out to be a piece of coral, of course! The coral is in the bottom left hand corner of the photo.

Tree fishing

Yes, it is such a thing, however may not always get anything like a fish at the end of it.
I got a phone call and asked if we wanted to try this type of fishing. Sure, try anything once. They, Sheri and Glenda bought the device and we met them over by the beach.

There were three "fish" to gather and they had done one on the way so we each got a turn.
The "fish" is to the left of pic about half way up. It is a cache of course, so first had to locate it and then operate the fishing rod to be able to capture it and bring it down. Each were about 12 metres high, my arms were jyst starting to ache a little when secured mine and was able to bring it to earth. Then of course it had to be put up again.
The girls found an ordinary cache as well and while signing it, they are standing in the base of a tree, very solid old tree but plenty big enough for them both to be inside it.

Crochet class

Well, my crochetting class has been going well and to date I have crochetted around two knitted blankets and I have completed one whole blanket by crochet.
Quite happy with that although I can see some errors, some "squares" are not quite squares. I had worked some of the colours in their entirety before I decided to put a black border around them, so some had the border added after they were finished and the last lot was done together.

I had bought packs of wool, ten small balls in each, hence the colours and I do have quite a bit left over. The packs were on sale for $5 so I bought four packs.

Now I am on to "proper" granny squares or what most people think of when hearing granny squares. I have learnt how to add in colours without tying knots, thanks to watching YouTube and I was able to show a couple of people at class how to do it.

My next project will be to make some slippers, its a free pattern online and doesnt look too difficult

Spring has sprung.

Took Lucy for her walk yesterday and as I hadnt been walking her while I was under the weather, I was surprised to see these blossoms.
They seem to have come out very suddenly. Last week it was like we had missed spring as it was hot over 30 degrees for a few days. We had only just put away our heater.

My three Go to's

Well, my summer cold if that was what is was really hung around and I think I am finally on the mend, Sunday night.
All I wanted was 3 in one coffee, I felt that I wanted something hot to drink and my usual weak black coffee wasnt cutting it. Luckily I have picked these up when I saw them to put into the camper for next time when go out.
Disprin was for the headache and the temperatures that I had been running. Finally the Green Ginger Wine. Years ago, I had a ripper of a cold and I had left work early and I wanted something to drink. Warren was away somewhere for work, kids were too young to go out,  at the back of the cupboard was a half bottle of green ginger wine. I had a glass and went to bed. Well, I had a good nights sleep and arrived at work the next morning with no hint of a cold/flu. Since then it has been our go to,  wasnt as good this time though.

Mind you, these were not taken at the same time and today, I only had a disprin for a temperature then a sleep and feel pretty good now. Warren remarked that I had had more disprin in three days than in the previous three years.

What a waste of three days though, I hate being sick.

Oysters

I discovered this photo that I took while at the beach a few days ago.
A post that had been in the water and look at all the oysters around the bottom of it. Of course some other creature has eaten the meat out of the shell, but amazing to see how many shells are around it.

Summer colds.

Its probably been two years since I came down with a cold but today is the day! Great! I guess it could be worse without having the flu shot but I hate feeling under the weather.

Felt a bit woody headed last night so had a hot shower and made a hot lemon drink, went to bed and didnt feel too bad.

Crochet class today so went along to that and my nose started to run about half way through class, by then, my head was starting to feel woody again. I had a couple of things that I was going to do on the way home but all I managed was to get a few groceries. Even bought two prepared meals so I doubted I will feel like cooking dinner.

Grabbed a hot coffee and went to bed, think I did have a short sleep. Another hot shower which does seem to clear my head and vegeing on the couch watching a dvd. Hopefully this is as bad as it gets.

Quilts

I have knitted for a charity the last couple of years and continue to do so. However, I had a light bulb moment a few weeks ago to do more for them and use up the many pieces of material that I have and will certainly not make up into clothes for me.

Spotlight had natural cotton wadding, 8 metres long by 150 cms wide, this was on sale for 50% off.  As I knew I wanted to make two for home use, I decided to buy a bolt.

I had a couple of projects that I needed to get done before starting so I have been champing at the bit to get going. Finally I was ready. I have made five to date and havent made much of a dent in my stash. My fabrics are usually 112 cm wide so thats what I am going with and making them about 150cms long.

The photo is quite dark but fabric is blues and purples.

Two together here, the purple is silk that I bought in China and it was quite narrow so had to add a strip of plain purple down each side. It feels lovely though.
