When plans fall over.

You just have to deal with it. Sold the car last week, delivered car, money in the bank and everything on it cancelled. This was all done on Thursday. Roll on to sometime Monday. Warren receives a call from new owner stating that there was something wrong with the brakes. Car had had a road worthy done on it and passed with flying colours!

Warren at first told her to get a quote and then we would look at what could/should be done. After a pretty sleepless night, we decided that, that cause of action could open a can of worms so we offered to take the car and give her back the money, which happened today.

She had been driving down a hill and applied the brakes and the car shuddered. I think she was probably going a bit fast and then hit the brakes hard. My car is quite a bit heavier and bigger than what she had been driving.

Rang a mechanic and when Warren told him what had happened, he suggested that she had over heated the brakes. Anyway the car is now back and it will have to stay at home for awhile while we are away as we dont have time to do anything with it. Monday is looming to leave on our big lap.

And They are off!

After two years (or more) of planning Sheridan and family were due to leave at 10 am yesterday morning on their epic (to borrow a word from Aidan)trip around Oz.

Of course not everything goes to plan. The car had been serviced and had a clutch replaced last week. Sunday there seemed to be a leak. Phone to dad/Warren who says it has to go back.

We offered them the use of the Jeep to get them on their way and drove down on Monday morning. in the meantime, they had delivered car to repairer and had been told it was be ready after lunch, only postponing the start by four hours. As we were already on the way when they got that news, we left the Jeep there "just in case". Car did take longer to fix but back on same day.

As they were heading North they drove both vehicles and Dennis (caravan) and we met them out on the highway to collect the Jeep. I did take a photo of them packed and ready to take off but only had my phone. Now if I could work out how to go from the phone to the computer and my blog, I could post the picture but as I don't know how to do that, the photo stays put. They drove off at 5.45 pm, a little behind schedule but not too bad. First stop wasn't far and we did get a message that they had arrived and were settling up in the fading light.

Starting to make it more real for us as we are now down to 28 days until we leave and there is quite a bit that I want/need to do around home first.

The Dreaded Blue Light.

Funny thing happened last night on the way home. Sheridan and I had been to Sydney and driving home to her place, she was driving my car. Damned if I could find my way from the airport to her house.

Chatting away she was in the left lane and there was car in front but in the right lane. Another car pulls alongside and goes ahead and suddenly blue lights are flashing in the back window. It was an unmarked Police car. The car in front and the Police car then then move over in front of us and made their way to the kerb. Sheridan says to me, "Is it me?" "I don't know" I replied, not ever been pulled out and never seen a car suddenly put on their blue lights, we didn't know the protocol. She decided to pull behind them just to be on the safe side.Three car doors open at the same time and coppers get out, Sheri rolls down the window and asks "Do you want me?" The back door copper looks over, shakes his head and says "No, not you." Sheridan pulls out and around, both of us feeling very relieved. Not something that you want on a late Sunday evening.

The other car didn't seem to be driving fast or unsafe so wonder why they had pulled them over, guess we will never know.

5.30am is not my favoured time

Grrrr the alarm goes at 5.07am as we had to leave at 5.30am, (I always like to have 10 or 15 minutes up my sleeve). Had to have the car at the Airport parking by 6.30/6.45am to check in and then they would drive us to the airport, seeing as we had not been there before and the traffic, we wanted to have a fudge factor.

Everything went as planned and we were at the airport with plenty of time, had HJ's for brekkie, an egg and bacon muffin. Slept for a few minutes on the plane but it was noisy as there were people from a company who were travelling and of course they were dotted around the plane and the conversations went between many seats.

We had hired a car from a company in Melbourne and as they were away from the airport, we needed to ring them and get picked up by the time we walked to the pick up area, we only had to wait  a couple of minutes. It was a little car! the insurance was actually more than hiring the car!

Two hours across the city and a stop for lunch and we were pulling into Rob's. We had to check out the deck that he has built on the side of the house. Wow it was impressive, really dont know how he managed to do it on his own (except for a almost 3 year old "helping") Its all finished except the roof and he is waiting for that to be delivered.
