My poor hand

First there was the three corner rip, healing nicely after a week.

Base of the thumb is bruised nd swollen a bit where my phone dropped on it. Phone dropped on its end about eight inches, I had it tucked under my chin while I used two hands to search for pen and paper in my bag.

Then I have the indentation on my finger where I had to take my ring off that I have worn for over twenty years. With cold and weight loss, it kept moving around the finger and seemed that I was going to lose it.

BUT, the question is, when did my hands get so wrinkly and old looking?

New GPS

A couple of weeks ago, Warren bought off Ebay a unit for his Ute. This was a combined gps, dashcam and reversing camera. Good price at $119. The last time we bought a gps about eight years ago was over three hundred dollars.

The unit was delivered and he put it in his Ute. That night we went out to dinner with friends and  had to use the Ute as the car was in dock. Oh my goodness, the gps worked so well, big display, good maps and it worked on voice. Bonus!

I wanted one even though we have a dash cam and reversing camera already in the car. But our gps is old and sits down in the gear well and addresses have to be typed in, I rarely use it as it's annoying.

Warren ordered one for me and it only took five days to be delivered.

It will play music but the sound is a bit tinny so stay with the radio or DVD. It also advises on speed cameras and any issues on the road ahead. Love it.

Like new

The car went in for repair a couple of weeks ago.

Just before we went on holidays, we noticed the dent in the front of the car.  It had been backed into, damage was probably caused by a towbar.  Likely the other driver didn't even know they had done it.

we called a touch up guy but he said it needed a panel beater. Not sure why they call them that any more as the panels dont get beaten into place they are just replaced.

Car was in for a week, we did it under insurance which meant we had to pay the excess but I think it would have been three or four thousand dollars. Three panels were replaced and the black bits.

Car today, just like a new one

Christmas in July

In the coldest place in the state, Stanthorpe,  it was due to be one degree at 7am which is the time that parkrun starts.

We left after work, need catching two trains to meet up, with a couple of stops, it was just over three hours.

Cute air bnb, front two rooms of a house, there was a code to get the key in locked box. Two comfy beds with a/c.

We left for parkrun at 6.30am could have walked, it was quite close.  Arrgh, there was ice on the windscreen! A few minutes with the engine running and heater on soon took care of that.

People started to arrive in all types of Christmas attire,  there were festive socks, hats, skirts even a full Santa suit complete with beard, they were a volunteer.

Artwork had been drawn on the paths

There was a snow machine

Getting our hot chocolate after the first lap.

They even had the words to the twelve days of Christmas written on the path but changed to fit in with parkrun.

I remember the last two, it was two smelly socks and then one more parkrun completed.

A fun morning.

Car service

Our car has just done over 100k so times for its 100k service. We are a little over at about 103,000 as the service gets that we go to, couldn't fit us in for nearly three weeks. I guess with school holidays coming up, they were extra busy. They are very good also which means they gave a lot of customers.

The owners are two brothers, not sure of other staff, Warren just refers to them as "the boys", they are probably in their forties.

They rang at 2.30 to tell us the service was finished and we drove to pick up and pay.

Bill was over $500 and I jokingly said that it would be Weiner's and beans for a few nights as they had discussed the damage to the front end. Car had been backed into and it's an insurance job but we have to pay the excess of $1250, car was due at panel beaters today.

Back home and Warren informed me that we have gold plated or maybe even solid gold spark plugs. They were $60! and we needed four of them. Good news though, they should last the next 100,000ks.

Second tartan rug

May, just finished well except one end of fringing, need a footy or tennis game to watch while I do that.

Again I made up the colours and only needed to buy the black. First is to make the "net". I used a bigger hook to do chains as long as I wanted, I tend to do my chains tighter so have learnt to use one size bigger then go down a size. First two rows of chain then single crochet was with a size 6,the rest with size 5.

The net is made by 3 chains at the start then double crochet, chain one and miss one stitch all the way along. I ended up with 90 spaces or holes. Once the net is as long as needed, it's time to fill in those spaces.

These are some chain lengths that I made for the first rug. Second rug I attached the end to foundation row and then chain the length of the rug. Chain length is then threaded through the spaces in an up and over pattern.

And hey presto, the result is a tartan rug!

I had in my stash, a 300 gram ball of orange, bought two balls of black and had the yellow. I did run out of the black and used a dark navy for the last couple of rows. This one took ten days
